Why is water in Andalusia such a matter of trust?
Because water is scarce here, and every drop carries weight. We saw it on 29 April 2024, when we drove from the notary to what would become our new home…
An unexpectedly full reservoir
29 April 2024. We were driving from the notary to our new home. Without keys in hand — that’s another story — and with adrenaline running high. It had been bone-dry for months. The reservoir in our valley had been empty, cracked like an old tiled floor.
And then, on that very day: the reservoir was full. No warning. No rain on the horizon. As if it simply said: yes, this feels right.
Choosing in uncertain times
We didn’t take the leap because it felt safe. We took it because it felt true. And that full reservoir felt like a quiet answer. In a place where water is scarce, every drop becomes meaningful. Not as a luxury, but as a reminder: life isn’t about control — it’s about trust.
The source beneath the ground
At our cortijo a small stream appears in winter, but our water comes from a deep underground spring. Not a romantic mountain creek with Disney sound effects — just a well that brings up clean water. Not glamorous, but honest. And every day it teaches us the same lesson: water is not something you take; it’s something you care for.
Water, stillness and choosing
In the Netherlands, water feels guaranteed. Here in Andalusia it’s different. Water is something you wait for, protect, sometimes even choose for. And that makes every drop precious — just like a moment of quiet.
Why we’re sharing this
We’re not aiming for moral high ground. No romantic “back to nature” story either. We simply want to show that rest isn’t a luxury spa package. Rest is a choice — made right in the middle of uncertainty. Just as we did. With that full reservoir as our unexpected companion.
At Cortijo La Vista you won’t find loud pools or happy hours. But you will find a pool where you can hear the cicadas, a terrace where the view matters more than your screen, and a cocktail you drink slowly — because no one is rushing you.
